Wines of the Month - December

Blank Canvas, Gruner Veltliner 2013, Marlborough, New Zealand

Traditionally a grape variety at home in Austria; Gruner Veltliner is now grown with great success in other parts of the world and here wine maker Matt Thomson and his wife Sophie have made this outstanding example. Rich and textured with honeysuckle, mandarin and white pepper. This wine has spent some time in oak which makes super food friendly and versatile. 5 years since harvest and in peak condition.

Cantine Leonardo da Vinci, Brunito Toscana 2016, Italy

From Tuscany’s heartland this sangiovese and merlot blend is an attractive deep purple and red colour with aromas of ripe red fruits, notably cherries together with violet notes. On the palate it is medium bodied with soft tannins and a freshness combined with cherry flavours and a hint of spice. Voted Wine Merchant's Magazines Best Value Red of 2018. Pasta and pizza all day long…
